Week 20: Continuing applying Equations to real world situations

1/16/2026

Happy Friday 7th Grade Families!

In math, we will continue working with linear equations, focusing on solving them and applying these skills to real-world situations. Students are building fluency and confidence as they practice setting up equations, interpreting solutions, and explaining their thinking.
You can support learning at home by encouraging students to regularly practice on IXL, review their class notes, and revisit any assignments that have been returned with feedback. Consistent practice is key so practice, practice, practice! The more students engage with the material, the stronger their understanding will become.

Week 19- Making Math Make Sense: Applying What We Know

Happy Friday 7th Grade Families!!

Next week in math, we will begin transitioning from basic computational work with equations into application-based learning. Students will be supported in applying the skills they have already learned to new contexts, connecting equations to prior concepts, and using them to solve real-world problems.

This shift will help students deepen their understanding of why the math works, not just how to compute, by encouraging reasoning, problem-solving, and making meaningful connections across topics. Our goal is to build confidence as students see how math applies beyond the classroom and to situations they can recognize and relate to.

Happy New Year 7th grade families!!

This week, we will move at a steady pace as we review expressions and equations, helping students continue to build a strong algebraic foundation. These concepts are essential, as they will be embedded in the work we do for the remainder of the year.

Please continue to encourage students to complete IXL practice at least once a week. Benchmark assessments are coming up soon, and we use this data to identify academic needs and determine appropriate supports, such as intervention or enrichment.

Happy Friday 7th Grade Families!

Next week, we will continue practicing how to solve equations. Please encourage students to keep practicing on IXL and to review their notes regularly. Students will have a check-in assessment before leaving for break so we can see where their understanding currently lies.

Happy Friday 7th Grade families!

Students will continue working with expressions only now, they’ll be setting expressions equal to one another to form equations. While we’re introducing equations, it’s important to note that students are still practicing all the skills they’ve built with expressions. The exciting part is that they now get to use those skills to figure out unknown values!

As always, practice is key. Please continue encouraging your student to review their notes and work on IXL to strengthen their understanding.

Happy Friday 7th Grade Families!
This week, we will be wrapping up our unit on expressions. Students will have a check-in next Thursday, and on Friday, we’ll begin introducing equations.

Students will also receive homework to complete over the break. Please help us encourage them to stay on top of it, keeping their skills fresh will make a big difference when we return!

Happy Monday 7th Grade Families!

This week, we will continue practicing factoring expressions. As a team, we’ve noticed that many of our 7th graders are finding this concept challenging, so we’ll be dedicating extra time to strengthen their understanding.

Before we move on to equations, it’s important that students first build a solid foundation with expressions, since expressions are what make up equations! Mastering this skill will set students up for success as we move into more complex math concepts in the coming weeks.

Happy Friday 7th Grade Families!

Now that we’ve mastered the basics of expressions, it’s time to move on to equations! Before we take that next step, students will put their understanding to the test. Since expressions are the building blocks of equations, it’s important that students can confidently identify, simplify, and apply them in different contexts.

By reviewing and reinforcing these foundational skills, students will be ready to take on equations with confidence, understanding not just how to solve them, but also what they represent.

Happy Friday 7th Grade Families!

This week students mastered identifying the different parts of an expression, identifying like terms & combining like terms. Next week students will dive into factoring vs expanding expressions as well as translating expressions. Students as a whole did really well on their CLT check in. Please encourage your students to continue to look back and reflect on all of their practice that they have done thus far. They should be targeting that practice on IXL at least 15 minutes everyday.
